Note
The Solid State Recorder (SSR) Reset is currently scheduled to start DOY 265 (9/22/21) at 11:00z and is expected to go into early DOY 266 (9/23/21). During the activity SSR Science Data Record will be disabled and instrument science data will not be captured. The FOT will re-enable science data record once all requisite activities are completed. The successful resetting of the onboard SSRs will restore all the Terra MODIS PWA that were previously lost due to successive failures.

Terra FOT successfully performed the solid-state recorder (SSR) reset on Sept 22, 2021. Science data acquisition was disabled between 2021.265 11:14:14 - 2021.265 22:53:58. However, due to the unavailability of Terra altitude and ephemeris files, MODAPS has a larger gap in the production from 2021.265 11:05 - 2021.266 00:05. The data gaps from this event can be observed in the NRT. Example images showing the data gap in the operational C6 archive are posted below. The global browse images show a large gap over portions of Europe and Africa in the daytime orbits, which extend to the Western hemisphere. The night time orbits shown in the MOD02 L1B Thermal band 21, the data gap can be observed over most of the Eastern hemisphere and Africa. The MODIS instrument continued to be in science mode and nominal operations through and after this activity. Initial assessment from FOT suggests that all the PWAs are now operational. Additionally, the daytime data collection schedule has been adjusted back to its previous nominal schedule. Starting on DOY 2021269-00:00 (09.26.21) the Terra day/night coverage has been restored to earlier 50/50 ratio following the successful SSR reset. More information on this can be found here.
