MODIS Data Affected By Solar Eclipses

The MODIS Land data products generated using the sensor data acquired during the Solar eclipses may have quality related problems. Since there is no automated process implemented at MODAPS to identify the MODIS overpass intersecting the Solar eclipse, the affected L1B granules could not be removed from the C5 reprocessing and forward processing. The anomaly in the TOA irradiance and reflectance is propagated to the downstream daily surface reflectance product and the L3 daily and n-day composite products. Users are advised to refer to the following table for possible data anomaly in the product due to eclipse. This listing contains eclipse days highly visible in the global browse images of L2 Daily Surface Reflectance. The affected area appears dark in the global browse. Other eclipses may have had more subtle effects. The location of the data most strongly affected by each eclipse is noted for each one. Click on the link to see the global browse of the surface reflectance for the day and also the high resolution browse of the affected spatial subset. The exact trajectory of each of these eclipses can be found at the NASA ECLIPSE WEB SITE
