MODIS Aqua Collection 6.1 (C61) Band 29 brightness temperature (BT) has been found to show significant upward trend since 2018 because of increased electronic crosstalk between PV LWIR bands. This drift is shown below over Ocean.
This is resulting in MYD21 showing warmer than expected land surface temperatures (LST). The MODIS Calibration Support Team (MCST) and LST science team have taken note of this and MCST has provided a fix to minimize this Band 29 crosstalk drift that is currently under evaluation and testing. Once this approach is confirmed, the changes will be implemented as part of C61 forward production. The affected period from 2018 to the leading edge may be reprocessed later but it is not decided yet. Further updates will be provided once the corrections start running in the forward production.
