On October 11th, 2019 (2019.284) the Aqua MODIS instrument experienced a contact error, which originally resulted in a data gap in granules 16:30 - 17:10. Data has since been partially recovered. As of 10.23.19 (2019.296), the data loss has been limited to granules 16:30 through 16:50, which mostly occurs during a night time orbit over the Antarctic through the start of a daytime orbit over South America. The first image below shows the Aqua MODIS global browse image where this gap is observed off the southern coast of South America. Additionally, granules 17:00 and 17:05 (over South America) have been found to contain a data gap in the L1B reflectance, emissive and geolocation information. Example images of these granules are also posted below.
