An artifact was discovered in the C61/MCD19A3CMG EVI, NDVI, and the gap filled NDVI layers over the entire swath of southern polar region. On further review, the same artifact was observed in the tiled MCD19A3D snow fraction, 1km NDVI, and Nadir BRDF-Adjusted Reflectance (Band1, Band2) as well. The image below shows the artifact in the MCD19A3CMG for 2008/295. The second image shows the artifact for the same day in the MCD19A3D NBAR_250m and NDVI1km layers. The artifacts occurred over permanently snow covered areas and no meaningful NDVI retrieval is expected over these regions. This is an artifact from a software bug in the science processing code that will be fixed in the forward processing. Product from the prior mission period will not be reprocessed and users are being advised to use the data with caution.
