Land Data Ordering from LAADS


All land data (except snow/sea ice) are now available to public for download from LAADS. To browse and order the data please visit the LAADS website at http://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/.

Note that all the products are available online for the entire mission, except some of the dailies available online only for more recent data days (8-16 days). Data not available online can be regenerated on demand by LAADS. You may either login to ftp data server and search the data pool for the data that is available online, or search and order the product on the web. In general it may be always convenient for you to order on the web so the system can put an automatic request for generating the data that is not available online. Please note that "processing on demand (POD)" will take some time and you will be notified when the data is available.

Follow the following steps to browse and order the data:

1. By logging to the ftp server

  • ftp ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov
  • login as anonymous
  • cd allData/5/esdt/yyyy/ddd
      esdt = product short name (e.g MOD09)
      yyyy = Year (e.g. 2010)
      ddd = day of year (e.g. 249)
    prompt
  • mget *.hhmm.*.hdf
      hhmm: granule identified by the approximate start time of the granule in hours and min (granules start at 5 min boundary)

2. Search and order from LAADS web

  • Connect to http://ladsweb.nascom.nasa.gov/
  • Click on Data on the next page and on Search in the following page
  • Select Satellite/Instrument: Terra MODIS or Aqua MODIS
  • Select Group: e.g. Terra Land Level2 Products
  • Select Product: e.g. MOD09
  • Temporal Selection: Enter the date time range e.g. to search from day 249 enter 2010-249 00:00:00 for start and 2010-249 23:59:59 for end
  • Collection Selection: Select archive set # 5
  • Spatial Selection: Global will include all granules from the specified date/time range, Lat/Long will let you identify the region of your interest. Tiles are 1200 x 1200 km gridded regions in sinusoidal map projection.
  • Click on Search.
  • Follow the instructions on the web to place the order and/or download the data.
