C1.1 Reprocessing of SNPP VIIRS Land Products at Land PEATE

The C1.1 Reprocessing of SNPP VIIRS Land Products is underway at Land PEATE, with processing of data from data day 1/19/2012 in AS 3110. This reprocessing will generate the VIIRS Land SDRs, IPs and EDRs (L1/L2 swath products) using the Mx7.2 based IDPS OPS PGEs with following changes in the operational processing.

  • This reprocessing uses the calibration LUTs provided by the NASA VCST for the L1B SDR.
  • DNBs are processed using the LUT for calibration and stray light correction provided by the NASA VCST.
  • Processing uses the LPEATE Adjusted variations of OPS PGEs for TC DNB Geolocation (DNFT), L2 LSR (SR-IP), L2 VI (VRVI) and L2 Aerosols (AOTIP).
  • Land PEATE will process the LPEATE Science DDRs using the most recent version of the algorithms and the CERES subsetter.
  • This reprocessing does not generate the OPS L2 Land Albedo, Surface Albedo or any GIP PGEs as part of this reprocessing.
  • Cloud Mask uses the Climatology 16-day composite NDVI from the 4-years of Aqua MODIS observations and daily snow-ice from NISE data replacing the 17-day rolling tiles of NBAR-NDVI and the monthly snow-ice rolling tiles used in the operational process at IDPS.

The reprocessing is progressing at approximately 8x rate, and so is expected to be completed by early May 2014. As the reprocessing takes place and data from it is stored to AS3110, the data from the C1 "Best Of" reprocessing located in AS3100 will be cleaned from the LAADS archive. Note: Forward production in AS 3001 (uses IDPS ops PGEs) and 3002 (uses LPA variation of IDPS) will remain unchanged at this time. The forward processing in AS3000, aggregating all daily L1/L2 Swath products has been reduced to one day in a week i.e. obtaining and aggregating the L1/L2 products on data days that intersect Fridays as of data day 2014080. This is being done to serve two purposes: 1) to verify LUT updates at IDPS which typically go into operations on Thursday's, and 2) so that the products can be used to verify processing in AS3001 is in sync with the IDPS and the products are identical to IDPS.
